A virtual naturopath, anywhere in Ontario
Dr. Victoria Posavad, ND
Dr. George Makrides, ND
Dr. Yehia Al-Hashmi, ND
Every appointment here happens by video. Not as a substitute for being seen in person, but because for this kind of work it is usually the better format: a full hour of someone's attention, an appointment within days rather than months, and no drive at either end of it.
Not sure if naturopathic medicine is for you?

The history is the diagnostic work. It does not compress well, so we do not compress it.
Requisitions go to a collection site close to home. You never come to us for blood work.
The honest case for seeing a Naturopathic Doctor online.
Most clinics added virtual appointments as an overflow option during the pandemic and kept them as a convenience. This practice was built the other way round, so the trade-offs are worth stating plainly rather than glossing.
And what it does not suit- 01You are seen in days, not months. A virtual practice is not limited by how many rooms a building has, which is most of why naturopathic wait lists exist in the first place.
- 02The appointment is longer. A first visit is 60 minutes because the history is where the answer usually is. That is the same hour whether you are in Toronto or Timmins.
- 03Nobody drives anywhere. Two hours of round trip for a follow-up is the reason most people stop going. Removing it is the single biggest thing that keeps a plan on track.
- 04Lab work still happens locally. Requisitions are sent to a collection site near you. Results come back to your Naturopathic Doctor and get explained on the next call.
- 05Insurance works the same way. Extended health plans do not distinguish between a virtual and an in-person naturopathic visit. Direct billing runs through TELUS eClaims either way.
- 06You can bring your existing results. Bloodwork your family doctor already ran is usually the best starting point, and it is easier to review a PDF together on a screen than across a desk.

Fitra Health clinical policy. Follow-ups run 30 or 60 minutes.
What a virtual naturopathic appointment involves.
There is no app to install and no waiting room. A link arrives by email, you click it at your appointment time, and the Naturopathic Doctor is there.
The history is the diagnostic work, and it is the part a screen does not degrade.
The first appointment runs a full hour and is almost entirely conversation: when things started, what has changed, what you have already tried, what your existing results show. Physical examination is a small part of naturopathic assessment for the concerns most people arrive with, which is why this format works for them and why it is honest to say where it does not.
If testing would change the plan, a requisition is sent to a collection site near you, or a kit is mailed. You have the blood draw locally and results route back to your Naturopathic Doctor. Nothing about that step requires you to be in a particular city.
After the appointment a written plan lands in your inbox: what is being investigated, what to change and in what order, and what would count as this working. Follow-ups are 30 or 60 minutes depending on what is being reviewed.

How a virtual appointment runs
From the first call to ongoing check-ins, here is what happens and where you need to be for each part of it.
- 01A free 10-minute callTell a Naturopathic Doctor what's going on and hear, honestly, whether this is right for you.
- 02Your initial appointmentA full hour by video: what brought you here, when it started, what you have already tried, and what your existing results show. No waiting room, no drive.Book your first appointment
- 03Targeted lab work, where neededA requisition goes to a collection site near you, or a kit is mailed. You have the sample taken locally and results route back to your Naturopathic Doctor.
- 04Your personalized care planWritten down and sent to your inbox after the appointment: what is being investigated, what to change and in what order, and what would count as this working.
- 05Ongoing monitoringShort video check-ins to see what is working and adjust what is not. This is the part that stops happening when it means a two-hour round trip.

Where virtual care is the wrong answer.
A practice that claims video suits everything is not being straight with you. These are the cases where it does not, and where a Naturopathic Doctor here will say so on the free call rather than book you in.
Better seen in person
- Anything needing hands-on physical examination, including abdominal or musculoskeletal assessment
- Acupuncture, injection therapies and any other in-person modality
- An acute injury, or a symptom that has come on suddenly and severely
For these, a local clinic is the right call, and we would rather tell you that before you have paid for anything.
Not a naturopathic question at all
- Chest pain, sudden severe symptoms, or anything that belongs in an emergency department
- A condition already being actively managed where the next step is a specialist referral
Naturopathic care works alongside your physician, not instead of them. Where the right next step is medical, that is what you will be told.
Outside Ontario
Naturopathic Doctors at Fitra are registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario and can only see patients located in Ontario. If you are in another province, your provincial regulator's public register is the place to start.
Not sure? That's what the call is for.
Ten minutes with a Naturopathic Doctor, no charge. They will tell you plainly whether this format suits what you are dealing with. If it does not, they will say so.
Every city in Ontario, and every town between them.
These are the places people search from most often. The list is not a limit: if you are in Ontario, you can be seen.

What people ask before their first online appointment.
Can I see a naturopath online in Ontario?
Yes. Naturopathic Doctors registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario may deliver care by video or phone anywhere in the province, under the same standards that apply in a clinic. You need to be physically located in Ontario at the time of the appointment.
Is a virtual naturopath appointment as good as in person?
For most of what people come in with, yes, because naturopathic assessment leans heavily on a detailed history rather than physical examination. Where a physical exam or a hands-on treatment is the point, it is not, and you should be told that rather than booked in. Anything acute or sudden belongs with your physician or an emergency department.
How do lab tests work if I never come to a clinic?
A requisition is sent electronically to a collection site near you, or a kit is mailed to your home for tests that allow it. You have the sample taken locally, results route back to your Naturopathic Doctor, and they are explained on your next appointment.
Is online naturopathic care covered by insurance?
Extended health plans do not generally distinguish between virtual and in-person naturopathic visits, so if your plan covers naturopathic care it normally covers it either way. Fitra direct bills through TELUS eClaims where your plan allows. OHIP does not cover naturopathic care in any format.
Do I need a referral to see a Naturopathic Doctor?
No. Naturopathic Doctors are primary contact practitioners in Ontario, so you can book directly. Some extended health plans ask for a physician's note before they reimburse, which is worth checking with your insurer rather than assuming.
What happens on the free 10-minute call?
A Naturopathic Doctor hears what is going on, tells you whether this is something naturopathic care can help with, and checks your insurance coverage. There is no charge and no obligation. If it is not a fit, they will tell you and point you somewhere more useful.
Can a Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario order blood work?
Yes. Ontario Naturopathic Doctors can order and interpret a defined set of laboratory tests, which is why a virtual appointment can still investigate rather than just advise. Lab fees are separate from the visit and are passed through at cost.
What if I live outside Ontario?
Then we cannot see you. Registration with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario permits practice in Ontario only. Your own province's regulator keeps a public register of naturopathic doctors, which is the right place to start.

This page is general education, not medical advice, and it is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. It does not create a practitioner-patient relationship. Nothing here is a promise of an outcome. Anything on this page that applies to you should be discussed with a Naturopathic Doctor or your physician, who can look at your history and your results.
