Can a naturopath help with fertility?
Alongside your physician or fertility clinic, yes. A Naturopathic Doctor works on the modifiable side: ovulation and cycle regularity, thyroid, insulin, nutrient status, sleep, alcohol and stress load, for both partners. Diagnosis, medication and procedures stay with your clinic.
When should we get help?
If you've been trying for a year, or six months if you're over 35, see your physician about a referral. You don't have to wait to start the naturopathic side; the months before a clinic timeline are the ones most within your control.
Does naturopathic care work with IVF?
Yes. We coordinate with your clinic's protocol rather than around it, and focus on the pieces the protocol doesn't cover: nutrition, sleep, blood sugar, thyroid, and recovery between cycles.
What tests come first?
A cycle history and ovulation tracking, then a thyroid panel with antibodies, prolactin, fasting insulin, ferritin, B12, folate and vitamin D, and a semen analysis for a partner. Your Naturopathic Doctor tells you which would change the plan before anything's ordered.
What about after a miscarriage?
Recovery first, physically and otherwise. Then the checks that are worth doing: thyroid and antibodies, blood sugar, nutrient status, and anything your physician wants to investigate. We work alongside that care, not instead of it.
How much does a naturopath cost in Ontario?
At Fitra Health the first call is free, the first 60-minute appointment is $249, and follow-ups are $99 for 30 minutes or $199 for 60. Lab work is passed through at cost. Most extended health plans cover naturopathic visits, and we bill more than 30 insurers directly.
Is naturopathic medicine covered by OHIP or insurance?
OHIP doesn't cover naturopathic visits. Most workplace and private extended health plans do, up to an annual maximum. We bill through TELUS eClaims where your insurer is on the network and issue an insurance-ready receipt where it isn't. Visits are HST-exempt and may qualify for the medical expense tax credit.
Do I need a referral?
No. You book directly. Bring any results you already have and your Naturopathic Doctor starts from there rather than repeating work.
